The weather and climate thresholds under which fire is most likely to occur is poorly quantified in Hawaii and other Pacific Islands.  Fire weather is fundamental to improving responder preparedness and communicating fire risk to the public.  The Wildland Fire Program is currently working to link fire occurrence with climate and weather data to establish fire weather thresholds and analyze their frequency and the geographic space in which they occur.
